Finished records for singer-songwriters, musical theatre, classical singers, bands and ensembles. I produce, write, play and engineer them at MAX Studios, my own studio in Harlem.

  1. connect

We talk through your songs, your references and what you want the record to feel like. If you'd like a co-writer for a song that isn't finished, I write too. If your songs are done, we start from them.

  2. record

We record, produce and mix in Harlem, with you in the room for the decisions that matter. When a song needs more, I bring in the studio musicians and collaborators it calls for.

  3. release

You leave with finished masters, and I walk you through distribution and registering your songs, so putting the record out never feels like a mystery.

hi, i'm caleb

hi, i'm caleb I've been working in the music industry for over a decade, bringing albums to life as a producer, engineer, guitarist and songwriter. But even with work on a Grammy-nominated album and millions of streams and views, I've discovered what truly drives me is helping artists create music that inspires.

My journey into music started back in the Midwest, surrounded by gospel tunes and family musicians. Armed with nothing more than a plastic microphone and a home computer, I dove into songwriting, recording and audio engineering with a guitar in hand. In music school, I found my love for the studio and quickly had the privilege of working at some amazing studios while continuing to tour and perform live.

These days I'm in Harlem, where I started Manhattan Artists Crossing (MAX Studios). Pull up a chair, put something on, and tell me what you're making.

The live room at MAX Studios: a Yamaha grand in front, the drum kit and the movable wood wall panels behind

the room

I built MAX because artists uptown kept asking the same thing: why are there no studios near me who do that?

A Yamaha grand in a live room lined with movable wood panels, inspired by the tilting walls of Capitol Studios' Studio A. We angle them to shape the sound around each song, with a control room next door.

questions

do i need a producer?

You'd hire a great drummer to get the feel right. A great producer gets you the sound you want, and works your release strategy into the very first conversations about your song. I can help with songwriting and arrangement, hiring the right players, and finding the right mastering engineer for your sound. I'll help you make every decision right up to release, so your voice doesn't get lost in the mix. If you only need a clean recording, book session time at MAX Studios instead!

my songs aren't finished, can we still start?

Absolutely! I've co-written songs that started as “I want Rolling in the Deep meets Free Fallin’” and songs that started as a hook and a melody on a voice memo. If your songs are done, we can go straight to arranging. If they need refining or a demo first, we'll begin with that.

i recorded parts at home, can you use them?

Absolutely! For best results, record at 48 kHz, 24-bit or higher, but we can work with whatever you have. Distortion, noise or room tone can sometimes limit what we can do, but they can also shape the vibe, which we love!

do i need a band?

Not at all. I've been a professional musician for 15+ years and have played a lot of instruments on a lot of records. We also work with some of the best musicians and collaborators in the world, right here in New York, and bring in the right player for each song.

can we work remotely?

Yes! I made records entirely remotely during the pandemic, and they're some of my proudest work, so you don't have to be in New York. If you'd like to visit, I have plenty of suggestions for places to stay.

how long does a record take?

It depends on the project! Songs that are written and only need arranging move fastest. If they still need rewriting or writing, I'd rather we take the time they need to become fully realized. We'll talk timing in our first conversation, based on what you need.

why are there no prices here?

Every project is different. Studio hours, instrumentation, player rates, mixing and mastering all change the cost, so every project gets its own estimate after our first conversation.

how does payment work?

A 50% deposit up front to start, and the rest when your masters are ready for delivery.

will i own my recordings?

Always. As an artist myself, I've seen too many dear friends taken advantage of, so I make it a priority to be a collaborator and a champion of your music, not a leech. Any way I can support you, I will. Besides, rising tides raise all ships, so let's get this baby out into the world and off to college!

what should i send you?

Anything that helps me get inside the project! A demo or voice memo, reference songs, a mood board or other inspiration, and roughly when you want to release. The form below has room for all of it. Let's start the conversation!
